Marble Restoration Tips
As experience has shown time and time again, the most common aspect that damages marble is insufficient care taken during the installation of the subflooring, which will eventually lead to
steps needed.
It is vital that you clean the subflooring beforehand, in addition to ensuring the installation area is level in all places. It is also important to check the surface of the installation area when it is not even and not properly clean, which means the marble will not be able to adhere to the floor properly. Apart from this, there could be some vacuum beneath the surface which will result in marble cracking under too much pressure. So as you can see, preparation is the key to keeping your marble flooring in good condition.
Cheap grouting is another reason marble cracks. When you do not use a good quality grout, it will mean your marble floor will eventually lose its strength and be damaged. In these situations, your only option is to purchase a new piece of marble, that 9 times out of 10 will not match your original marble.
When this happens you can either attempt to repair it yourself or hire a professional
marble restoration
company to do it for you. Should you decide to go the DIY route, there are a few important materials you will need, including a chisel, quality grout, tar paper and of course the marble slab.
Begin by removing all the damaged marble. You may have to take up the surrounding marble in order to replace the marble accurately. Try not to damage any of the surrounding marble when you remove them. Clean the
subfloor and make sure there is no dirt and grout left and that the surface is level.
Then fix the tar paper properly so the surface is smooth, spread the grout on it and fix the marble to the floor. Make sure there are no air bubbles or spaces left between the surfaces as this will eventually cause the marble to crack.
